     Victoria County according to the 2010 census had a population of approximately 86,793 people. That?s an increase of almost twenty thousand from the census of 1980. The growth in Victoria and surrounding communities is due in part to the expanding job opportunities. A large number of jobs are being provided by the much touted Caterpillar factory and plant.  The one million square foot of air-conditioned working space will provide positions for about 800 employees.

Medical programs for nurses and lab technicians have provided staffing for local hospitals like Citizens Memorial and DeTar Hospital. Local doctors have chosen to work here in our smaller but well-staffed medical community and serve our Victoria neighbors. Citizens Hospital in fact received the prestigious Thompson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals award in 2008.

     The educational needs of our Victoria Independent School District have grown along with our increasing population and job opportunities. Several years ago Victoria residents approved a bond election to build two new high schools, a new junior high, and elementary school campuses. The youth of Victoria are able to receive a strong educational foundation right here at home. This allows them the choice to continue their education here at The Victoria College or then on to The University of Houston at Victoria. For those with the urge to leave our community their local educational opportunities help them get into universities and colleges all over the country.

Housing demands have definitely outstripped the supply, tipping the market in favor of most sellers.
